APPLYING FOR A DRIVING LICENCE

 
The first step before you can learn to drive a car, moped or motorcycle is to apply for a provisional driving licence.
 
You can apply for your first provisional driving licence up to 3-months prior to your 16th if you are receiving disability living allowance at the higher rate or 17th birthday on both occasions the licence will only become valid on the date of your respective birthday.  Apply online by using the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency's (DVLA) secure and easy to use service.
 

You can also apply by completing the D1 application form that is available from the DVLA form ordering service or Post Office® branches. You will also need to enclose original documentation confirming your identity, a passport style colour photograph and the fee of £45.00. Send your completed application and payment to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AD or you may be able to use the premium checking service.

 

Allow at least three weeks for your provisional licence to arrive.
